Presidents' Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February to honor two of our greatest presidents - Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
Until 1971, both February 12 (Lincoln's Birthday) and February 22 (Washington's birthday) were observed as federal holidays. In 1971, President Nixon proclaimed President's Day to be observed to honor all past presidents of the US.
